Mail · Chat · Voice · Calendar · Directory

The business stack you run,
not the one you rent.

FaraData is a complete communications suite — email, team chat, voice, calendar, files, and an identity directory — on one server you own. One login for your whole team. Your data never leaves your infrastructure.

Self-hosted in one command. Community edition is free for up to 5 people. No per-mailbox lock-in, no vendor reading your mail.

Why self-host

Everything the suite does. None of the tenancy.

You stop renting seats from a vendor who holds your keys, reads your mail to train models, and raises the price every renewal. You run the same capabilities on hardware you control.

Your data, your keys

Mail, files, and contacts live on your box. In zero-access mode the server stores ciphertext it cannot open — not even you-the-operator, without the user's key.

One stack, one login

Email, chat, voice, calendar, files, and an Active-Directory-compatible identity service — integrated, not six subscriptions stitched together.

Install in one command

A single installer stands up the whole stack with TLS, DKIM, spam filtering, and health checks. Scale to a self-healing cluster when you outgrow one box.

The product

A full day of work, on your own server.

Mail & collaboration

A fast, modern webmail your team will actually like — plus any IMAP client they already use.

  • Threading, unified inbox, labels, snooze, scheduled send, 5-second undo
  • Server-side rules engine, vacation responder, draft auto-save
  • Shared contacts, CalDAV calendar, and file storage with per-person access

Chat & voice

Real-time team chat on Matrix and a full phone system, in the same app as mail.

  • Synapse Matrix chat — rooms, DMs, your homeserver, federation optional
  • Asterisk PBX with a browser softphone over WebRTC — extensions, a contact center
  • Your own TURN relay for calls that work behind any firewall

Identity & directory

Provision a Samba 4 Active Directory domain and run SSO for the whole org from the admin panel.

  • LDAP, Kerberos, GPO, DNS — join Windows and Linux machines
  • OIDC provider, SCIM 2.0 provisioning, LDAP/AD login, WebAuthn passkeys
  • Migrate in from PST, MBOX, EML, IMAP, and Apple Mail with dedup

Security model

Encryption where the server can't cheat.

Pick your trust model at install. Hardened-server for a classic managed mailbox, or zero-access where the keys are generated and held in the browser and the server only ever stores ciphertext.

Zero-access encryption

A per-user P-256 key is sealed in the browser under your password (Argon2id); mail is sealed with ECIES. The database — and every replica, snapshot, and backup — holds only ciphertext the server cannot open.

The password never crosses the wire

Login uses SRP-6a: the server keeps only a salt and a verifier it can't reverse, and proves itself back to you. Add TOTP and WebAuthn/FIDO2 passkeys on top.

Recovery that's actually yours

Get back in with a one-time recovery code or a FIDO security key via the WebAuthn PRF extension — register two so losing one isn't a lockout. A strict mode allows no recovery at all: the password is the only key.

Audit you can verify

A SHA-256 hash-chained event log with integrity verification and point-in-time snapshots. The compliance module scores CMMC 2.0 posture against observed state — and shows the gaps, not a rubber stamp.

Spam & malware, in-path

Rspamd scoring plus ClamAV scanning on the real delivery path — verified end to end, not just "the scanner loads." DKIM, SPF, and TLS enforced by the installer.

Self-healing cluster

Three nodes is the smallest cluster that fails over on its own. Quorum-gated promotion, measured at 22–24 seconds. Mail replicates to one peer.

Do the math

Stop renting mailboxes.

A 25-person team, for one year. Same email, chat, voice, calendar, and directory.

Microsoft 365 Business Basic

$2,100/yr
$7 / user / month × 25, billed annually
  • Per-seat, forever — the bill grows with every hire
  • Microsoft holds the keys and the tenancy
  • Price resets upward at renewal

FaraData, hosted

$1,032/yr
$600 license + $36/mo for two nodes
  • We run the cluster. You hold the keys.
  • On your own machine the license is $600
  • Three nodes, failover on its own: $1,248/yr

Microsoft 365 Business Basic, US public list, annual commitment — $7/user/mo; a reseller invoice can differ. The $1,032 is 25 people at $2.00, plus a two-node cluster at $36/mo. Those mailboxes are 5 GB. Three nodes that fail over on their own are $54/mo, $1,248 for the year.

Plans

Priced per person, not per product.

One license. One organisation, one mail domain, N seats. Deactivate a leaver and free the seat — no key to re-buy.

We run the cluster. You hold the keys.

One monthly bill for the machines, on top of the license. The cluster price stays put when you add a person. Two nodes keep a full copy of the mail. Three is the smallest cluster that fails over on its own.

Twelve people on Professional, hosted on two nodes, is $66 a month: $30 license plus $36. Fifty people on Business, hosted on two nodes, is $168: $100 plus $68. The $25 Family license does not include a machine. A hosted household is the $36 cluster plus that $25. Past these disks, the next pair is a quote.

“I spent years moving a million identities onto other people's infrastructure. FaraData is the version where the keys stay with the people who own the data.”
